Goal calculator

What will your dream cost tomorrow?Goal planning calculator for education, a wedding or a home.

A child’s education, a wedding, a house or a new shop: every goal costs more tomorrow than it does today. Enter today’s cost and the years you have to see the future cost and what you may need to invest. Results are estimates at rates you assume.

How to use the goal planner

  1. Enter what the goal would cost today, for example ₹10 lakh for a college degree.
  2. Enter the years until you need the money and the inflation you expect, from 3% to 12%. Education costs often rise faster than other prices.
  3. Pick an expected return a year to see the monthly SIP, or the one-time amount you’d need today.

How to read your result

Future cost is what the goal may cost when you need it. Monthly SIP needed and one-time amount needed are two ways to get there. You need one of them, not both, or a mix of the two.

For example, a goal that costs ₹10 lakh today could cost about ₹20 lakh in 12 years at 6% inflation. At an assumed 12% return a year, that’s a SIP of about ₹6,250 a month, or about ₹5.2 lakh invested today.

Returns are market-linked and not guaranteed, so start early and check your plan once a year. As the goal comes close, it’s common to move the money to steadier options. See how we plan for child education, or try the step-up SIP calculator to start smaller and raise it each year.

How the goal planner works

First it grows today’s cost by inflation to find the future cost. Then it works backwards to find the monthly SIP, or the one-time amount, that could reach it. C is today’s cost, f is inflation, t is years, r is the expected return a year, i is r divided by 12, and n is the number of months.

Future cost = C × (1 + f)^t; Monthly SIP = Future cost ÷ (({[1 + i]^n − 1} ÷ i) × (1 + i)); One-time amount = Future cost ÷ (1 + r)^t

FAQ

Common questions

What is a goal planning calculator?
It shows what a future goal may cost after inflation, and how much you may need to invest, every month or at once, to reach it.
What inflation rate should I use?
For everyday costs, 5% to 6% is a common assumption. Education and medical costs have often risen faster, so many families use 8% to 10% for them. A higher rate gives you a safer target.
Can I plan more than one goal?
Yes. Work out each goal on its own, then add up the SIPs. Our team can help you put your goals in order and plan them together.
Is the result guaranteed?
No. It depends on the return rate you assume. Mutual fund returns are market-linked, so the real result can be higher or lower. Review your plan every year and adjust it if needed.
What if I can’t afford the full SIP today?
Start with what you can and step it up each year as your income grows. A smaller SIP started early can still cover a good part of the goal. Book a meeting and we’ll work out a plan that fits.
