How to use the step-up SIP calculator

  1. Enter the monthly amount you can start with today.
  2. Choose a yearly step-up, from 0% to 25%. For example, 10% means a ₹5,000 SIP becomes ₹5,500 in the second year.
  3. Choose the number of years and an expected return a year, then compare the result with a flat SIP.

How to read your result

You’ll see the amount invested, estimated returns and total value, plus how much more you could end up with than a flat SIP of the same starting amount.

For example, ₹5,000 a month for 10 years at an assumed 12% a year comes to about ₹11.6 lakh as a flat SIP. With a 10% step-up each year, you invest about ₹9.6 lakh in all and the total comes to about ₹17 lakh. Part of the extra comes from investing more, and part from that extra money compounding too.

Pick a step-up you can keep up comfortably. Many people match it to their yearly raise or business growth; 5% to 10% is common. All numbers are illustrations, and mutual fund returns are market-linked. Learn more on our mutual funds and SIP page.

How the step-up SIP calculator works

Your SIP stays the same for 12 months, then rises by the step-up percentage, once a year. Each monthly instalment keeps growing at the monthly rate until the end. P is the starting monthly amount, s is the yearly step-up, k is the year number and i is the yearly rate divided by 12. The total adds up the value of every instalment.

SIP in year k = P × (1 + s)^(k − 1); Total value = sum of (each instalment × (1 + i)^months invested)

FAQ

Common questions

What is a step-up SIP calculator?
It shows what a SIP could grow to if you raise the monthly amount by a fixed percentage every year, and compares that with keeping the amount flat. For a flat SIP, use the SIP calculator.
Can I set up a step-up with my fund house?
Yes. Many mutual funds let you choose a yearly top-up when you start a SIP, as a fixed amount or a percentage. Our team can set it up for you.
What step-up percentage should I choose?
Choose what you can manage even in a slow year. A small step-up you keep going is better than a big one you have to stop. You can also raise your SIP yourself whenever your income grows.
Is the extra amount guaranteed?
No. The calculator uses the return rate you enter. Real mutual fund returns move with the market, so the final value may be higher or lower.
What if I can’t keep up the step-up one year?
That’s fine. You can pause the step-up or keep the SIP at the same amount. Talk to our team and we’ll help you adjust it without stopping your SIP.
