How to use the first crore calculator

  1. Keep the target at ₹1 crore, or change it to your own goal.
  2. Enter the monthly SIP you can invest.
  3. Pick an expected return a year. Then see how many years and months it may take, how much you invest and how much is growth.

How to read your result

Time to reach it is how long your SIP may take to grow to the target. Amount you invest is your SIP multiplied by the months. Growth is the rest: what compounding may add on top.

For example, ₹10,000 a month at an assumed 12% a year may take about 20 years and 1 month to reach ₹1 crore. You’d invest about ₹24.1 lakh, and growth makes up the rest. Double the SIP to ₹20,000 and it may take about 15 years: twice the SIP saves about 5 years, not half the time. At an assumed 10%, ₹10,000 a month may take about 22 years and 5 months.

Two things to keep in mind. Mutual fund returns are market-linked and not guaranteed, so the real path will have ups and downs; read what to do when markets fall. And ₹1 crore in 20 years won’t buy what it buys today; the inflation calculator shows how much less.

How the first crore calculator works

It uses the same formula as our SIP calculator, with money invested at the start of every month, and works out how many months it takes for the estimated value to reach your target. T is the target, P is the monthly SIP, i is the yearly rate divided by 12, and n is the number of months, rounded up to a whole month.

n = log(1 + [T × i] ÷ [P × (1 + i)]) ÷ log(1 + i); Amount invested = P × n; Growth = estimated value − amount invested

FAQ

Common questions

How long does it take to make ₹1 crore with a SIP?
It depends on your monthly amount and the return you assume. As an illustration, at an assumed 12% a year, ₹10,000 a month may take about 20 years, and ₹25,000 a month about 13 years and 5 months. Try your own numbers in the calculator.
Can I reach ₹1 crore sooner?
The biggest levers are starting early, investing more and raising your SIP as your income grows. The step-up SIP calculator shows how much a yearly increase can add.
Can I set a target other than ₹1 crore?
Yes. Change the target to any amount, for example ₹50 lakh or ₹2 crore, and the calculator shows how long your SIP may take to reach it.
Why does growth add so much in the later years?
That’s compounding. Over time, your growth earns growth of its own, so the value climbs faster towards the end. That’s why staying invested for the long run matters.
Is reaching ₹1 crore guaranteed?
No. The time shown depends on the rate you assume. Mutual fund returns move with the market, so it may take more or less time. Talk to our team about a SIP that fits your goal.
