How to use the Sukanya Samriddhi calculator
- Enter how much you’ll deposit each year, from ₹250 to ₹1.5 lakh. Deposits are made for the first 15 years.
- Check the current SSY rate at your post office or bank. The calculator starts at 8.2%, and you can change it.
- Add the inflation you expect, to see what the maturity amount may be worth in today’s money.
How to read your result
Total deposited is your yearly amount multiplied by 15. Interest earned is the growth on top, and the maturity amount is the two together after 21 years. Maturity in today’s money shows what that amount could buy at today’s prices.
For example, ₹1 lakh a year for 15 years is ₹15 lakh deposited. At 8.2%, the maturity amount comes to about ₹47.9 lakh. At 6% inflation, that’s worth about ₹14.1 lakh in today’s money. It still helps a great deal, but college and wedding costs may rise faster than everyday prices.
SSY is one part of planning for a daughter. If her goals are big, you may want money with a chance to grow faster alongside it, like a SIP for her education; mutual fund returns are market-linked, not guaranteed. Try the child education calculator, and see how we help with child education planning.
How the Sukanya Samriddhi calculator works
It assumes you deposit at the start of each year for 15 years, and that interest is added once a year. After the deposits stop, the balance keeps earning interest until the account matures, 21 years after it was opened. P is your yearly deposit, r is the yearly rate (8.2% is 0.082) and f is inflation.
Balance after 15 years = P × ({[1 + r]^15 − 1} ÷ r) × (1 + r); maturity = that balance × (1 + r)^6; today’s money = maturity ÷ (1 + f)^21FAQ
